Dr Kofi Oteng-Boateng is registered as both a dental surgeon and medical doctor in New Zealand.
He received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) with honours from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. His medical degree (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MB ChB) was awarded from the University of Auckland.
He worked for a number of years at Christchurch Hospital as a Dental / Maxillofacial House Surgeon, and then later in private dental practice. It was at the hospital that he developed his interest in surgery. During this time he completed various post graduate certificates and examinations including part of a fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, a certificate in conscious intravenous sedation, and the highest level of resuscitation currently offered by the New Zealand Resuscitation Council.
In 2006, Kofi entered the University of Auckland where he completed his medical degree (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MB ChB) in less than three years, and was awarded a distinction in his final year. He holds both general medical and dental registrations with the New Zealand Medical and Dental Councils.
He works as a doctor within the medical and surgical departments of public hospitals in New Zealand. In addition to this he works in selected private dental practices where he specialises in dental extractions, wisdom teeth removal, oral surgery and intravenous conscious sedation. He has also worked on the mobile surgical bus as a consultant surgeon and is a guest lecturer at Auckland University of Technology, Faculty of Oral Health.
Kofi has worked for and with a number of Dentists, Oral and Maxillofacial, ENT and General Surgeons, locally and internationally, in both public hospitals and private practice settings.
Kofi keeps himself up to date with advances in medicine, surgery and dentistry by regularly attending conferences, seminars and teaching sessions. He is a member of the following professional associations:
